A March 2012 early graduate from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a B.S. in Communications and an emphasis in journalism, Valerie Chen currently works as Content Specialist | Editor of Smarter.com at ValueClick Brands. There, she has found a career that corresponds with her love of writing; the English language and literature; creativity; and of course, learning in general.
She typically runs on coffee instead of sleep and enjoys reading, traveling, shopping, hiking, exploring, cooking, designing and painting in her free time. Due to her experience in creating content, communications, journalism and tutoring English, she is a huge stickler for grammar – a trait her friends appreciate when an AP Style Book isn’t handy, but one they disparage when they commit the ultimate atrocity of grammatical crimes: using “you’re” instead of “your.”
She apologizes for her admonishment, but figures being a grammar nerd fits in well with her line of work. Her strengths and specialities include online/print newspaper writing, editing and design; online/print magazine writing, editing and design; and utilizing all forms of social media in the communications field.
Valerie’s work has been published in various print and online publications, including Smarter, LAist, Frank151, Coast Magazine, ten57 Magazine and The Poly Post.
